Tell Secretary Pompeo to Oust Peter Hotez from Israel for “Hate Group” Lie

State Secretary Mike Pompeo, Israel National News

Mike Pompeo was sworn in as the 70th US Secretary of State last month. The US embassy in Israel was relocated to Jerusalem three weeks ago. The US-Israel Binational Science Foundation published a puff piece about board member Peter Hotez in its newsletter two weeks ago. In light of these developments, Autism Investigated renews its call for the State Department to oust him from the foundation’s board. Contact Secretary Pompeo and demand Hotez’s firing!

Honorable Secretary Mike Pompeo,

I am writing to ask that you remove Dr. Peter Hotez from the US Israel Binational Science Foundation. I have previously written the department under your predecessor Secretary Tillerson, but no one has addressed the substance of my complaint.

Peter Hotez has proven himself unfit to represent our country in any diplomatic capacity. At an academic keynote lecture he delivered in February, Dr. Hotez called organizations like Texans for Vaccine Choice and the National Vaccine Information Center “a hate group” and said “They are a hate group that hates [our] family and hates [our] children.”(1)

Whatever your opinion is of these specific groups, they are not hate groups. They seek to raise awareness for issues concerning vaccine safety and the right to opt out of school vaccine mandates for children.

Dr. Hotez is also extremely hypocritical to judge the intent of such groups when he is a member of the National Academy of Medicine (formerly the Institute of Medicine). The IoM produced reports proclaiming vaccination safe that purported to be scientific. In reality, IoM report authors had already decided in secret meetings to produce that conclusion at the behest of their federal sponsors before looking at any scientific evidence.(2)

Regardless of one’s position on vaccine safety, however, Dr. Hotez disqualifies himself from being worthy of such a position of international diplomacy. His zealotry, disregard of other viewpoints and contempt for people who do not share his ideological commitment to vaccination is a disgrace to our wonderful country and everything that we stand for. His representation contradicts President Trump’s commitment to work on vaccine safety with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and is counter-intuitive to the historic relocation of our embassy to Jerusalem. We should not have Peter Hotez representing US interests to any foreign partner here or abroad.

Sincerely,

Jake Crosby, MPH

The State Department Non-Response To Complaint Against Peter Hotez

Weeks ago, Autism Investigated complained to the State Department about Peter Hotez’s diplomatic appointment to the US-Israel Binational Science Foundation. After weeks of no reply, the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs finally responded with an unsigned email. They did so only to tell Autism Investigated that the email address they provided for contact on their own website should not have been contacted. They couldn’t even spell their own email address right. Very diplomatic…

Read the email, Autism Investigated has inserted bracketed comments throughout.

Texas Monthly Inadvertently Reveals Hotez Daughter’s Vaccine Reaction

Peter Hotez and daughter Rachel, Texas Monthly

In the December 2017 issue of Texas Monthly, a puff piece about vaccine doc Peter Hotez titled “Peter Hotez vs. Measles and the Anti-Vaccination Movement” was prominently featured. The piece featured details about Hotez’s family life and his daughter Rachel, whose autism Hotez insists was not caused by vaccination. He is even publishing a book devoted entirely to that position. Unfortunately for Hotez, his wife Ann revealed a crucial detail in the article about their daughter that is a telltale sign of an encephalitic reaction to vaccination.

According to the article:

Rachel had an unusually high-pitched cry, and when Ann would pick her up to comfort her, her tiny body would remain stiff rather than nestling into her mother’s arms.

The detail would lend support to an Autism Investigated meme about Hotez being in denial of his daughter’s vaccine-caused autism.

His daughter’s vaccine reaction is a commonly reported symptom by many parents of vaccine-injured children. Those parents include Katie Wright, the daughter of Autism Speaks‘ founders Bob and Suzanne Wright.

(Katie Wright liked the tweet.)

Hotez’s daughter’s vaccine reaction coupled with his ideological devotion to the radical Islam-like extremism of vaccination help explain his vitriol. Such anger was expressed in a recent lecture he gave at Duke University where he said certain vaccine safety and choice groups were “a hate group that hates [our] family and hates [our] children.” He made these remarks the week after the State Department appointed him board member of the U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation.

Autism Investigated has responded to Hotez’s attacks with a letter-writing campaign to the State Department urging them to remove him from his position. There is still no response from the department bureau overseeing his appointment. So please contact the State Department using their general contact form. Use Autism Investigated’s exact letter, but shorten the addressee name to just “State Department.”

PLoS Enables Seth Mnookin to Violate Community Guidelines Unchallenged

communityguidelines

Editor’s Note: Below is my rejected guest submission to the Public Library of Science (PLoS) Blogs Network responding to a libelous post that Seth Mnookin had written about me on PLoS last year in violation of PLoS’ own community guidelines listed above.

Jake Crosby Responds to Seth Mnookin

I am responding to the most egregious of the false allegations made on PLoS by Seth Mnookin, July 25th, 2013, that I “jabbed” him “in the chest” and that I also “crashed” his “invitation-only event” at the PRIMR conference in December of 2011. Please refer to the announcement of his event, which still exists on the Duke University website (scroll down to page 2 at 11:45am).

Mr. Mnookin’s event was clearly open to the public – no invitation necessary:

mnookineventtime

These false jabbing and crashing allegations appeared in his first and so far only blog post about me where he wrote (boldface mine):

“Jake, as I told you the first time you accosted me at a talk, in New York City in June 2011 — you remember that, right? It was the time you refused to shake my hand and instead jabbed me in the chest in front of dozens of people…”

What’s so remarkable is that not only does Seth Mnookin’s claim that I jabbed him in the chest instead of shaking his hand contradict what actually happened, but what actually happened was chronicled by me in my article that ran online one week after our exchange. It included this quote from him followed by what transpired, which he did not dispute (boldface added for emphasis):

“’So you aren’t gonna shake my hand, now? C’mon!’

Despite my hesitation, I shook his hand.”

His account of my jabbing him in the chest, among other fallacies of his about our encounters, came in a blog post almost two years later – ironically titled:

“Crosby’s labyrinth, or why I couldn’t stop myself from replying to the vaccine conspiracy theorist to end all conspiracy theorists.”

After I wrote a post refuting his allegations titled, Seth Mnookin Claims My Handshake Was Jab in His Chest, Mnookin responded by doubling down on his lie that I jabbed him in the chest with the following embellishment:

“When Jake approached me, I stuck out my hand, which he refused to shake…Then he came back to make a final point about his “proof” that I was on the take — and when he came back, he marched over and jabbed me in the chest.”

Although he is considered a “science writer,” what Seth Mnookin alleged on his PLoS blog is not at all about science, never happened and amounts to nothing more than libel – a violation of the PLoS Blog Network’s community guidelines. Please read my aformentioned article correcting Seth Mnookin’s false statements about me as well as my Age of Autism article titled My Conversation with Seth Mnookin which details my first encounter with him. Those who follow Mnookin’s writings, whether on the PLoS blogs or elsewhere, should not accept anything he writes as factual unless it can be independently verified by a reliable source.
